On April 13, Trevor Immelman made fewer mistakes than the rest of the field to outlast players, including Tiger Woods, to win the Masters in Augusta, Georgia. Immelman was as focused as any player I’ve seen in a long time when he played his final 18 holes. more from Common Sense and Golf

Geoff Ogilvy WON the tournament at Doral, Florida last weekend. Tiger didn’t lose it, Geoff WON it. Ogilvy, one of the nicest personalities in golf, received very little mention of his win (and chipping in to save his lead) in the golf columns because the writers seemed to think the big news was, “Tigers 6 Month Win Streak Ends at Doral!” Even when he loses, he gets top billing in the news. more from Common Sense and Golf

Well, lefty finally got the “W.” Yes, one week after he posted an 11 on the par 5 14th hole at Pebble Beach which eliminated him from the tournament, Phil Mickelson got a victory at the Riviera near Los Angeles, California. He gives credit to his two shot win (over Jeff Quinney) to a change in his swing, an adjustment to his putter and using a golf ball with a softer cover that created more back spin. more from Common Sense and Golf

Since my last visit with you, the LPGA had their SBS Open in Kahuku, Hawaii where Paula Creamer won by one shot over Julieta Granada. Congratulations to Europe’s dynamic dozen for their Ryder Cup victory last weekend. As you already know the European team defeated America’s best by a final score of 18 ½ to 9 ½. Congratulations to Tiger (twice) since my last article but the last three weeks have been very busy for this writer. I actually enjoyed seeing someone keep pace with Tiger hole after hole and even into the fourth hole of sudden death the way Stewart Cink did at Firestone South. Now that was a golf match! This started me thinking (and I know that scares you). Having watched this on the Golf Channel and seeing NASCAR drivers try their hand at golf challenges, why not have golf competition between drivers and, let’s say, baseball players? Why not football players vs. basketball players or hockey players? Not only would that be interesting to watch (and comical as well), it would stimulate more interest in golf and create a more diverse audience. more from Common Sense and Golf

I have a question for you. Who do you look up to? Who do you hold in high regard. For me, in golf, it’s Phil Mickelson.
